Jackson hires national firm in police chief search

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – On Tuesday, the Jackson City Council granted Mayor John Horhn’s request to bring in a firm to help search for the capital city’s next police chief.

The City Council voted 6-1 in favor of a contract with the Police Executive Research Forum.

Some councilmembers suggested that Horhn look for the next top cop within the Jackson Police Department (JPD).

“There are at least two candidates within JPD that I’m aware of who are interested in making application. We’re not shutting the door on that, but we’re also not closing the door on going out somewhere in this country and finding somebody who has the experience, the knowledge, the capability to run our police department,” the mayor said…
