JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A weekend meant for celebration across Mississippi was overshadowed by a series of violent incidents.
In Jackson, an 11-year-old boy was shot at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on October 11, 2025. Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said officers acted quickly and transported the child to the hospital.

“I did learn that the boy did have surgery. I know the surgery yesterday morning, from my understanding, but it was also my understanding that he is expected to recover. So, we are continuing to keep him and his family uplifted and pray that he does make a speedy recovery,” Jones said.
