Hinds CC launching evening classes with childcare, dinner in January

RJAYMOND, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds Community College (HCC) will provide childcare, tutoring and dinner at no cost to students enrolled in Tuesday night classes on the Jackson campus beginning January 13, 2026.

Officials said The Learning Circle: Evening Learning Series is part of HCC’s commitment to provide accessible higher education to working adults ready to start or return to college. Each Tuesday night will include free dinner for students and families, free childcare and enrichment on site so parents can focus on learning, and a peer learning community of adults with similar goals.

“What’s unique is we will have childcare up through age 11, tutoring and dinner, all provided at no cost to the student,” said Emily Mitchell, executive director of Strategic Communications & Recruitment. “This removes some barriers for people, so they don’t have to rush home from work or find a sitter. We want to take that part off their plates. When we think about the mission of Hinds, this is it.”

On Thursdays, students can access Jackson campus computer labs, but no childcare or meals will be provided…
