The Southern Girl, who was raised in Magnolia, Mississippi, is coming home and bringing her girlfriends with her – girlfriends who have a creative spirit that runs deep on the campus of Tougaloo College.
On October 31 through November 2, 2025, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is convening “A Gathering of Black Women Artists”. It will feature film screenings, live performances, masterclasses, and intimate conversations honoring and highlighting the profound contributions of Black women artists while shining a spotlight on their artistic landscape that is global but is centric to a place like Mississippi.
This gathering of Black artists, which Ellis-Taylor is calling a convocation, is a large assembly of artists that is unprecedented. It is punctuated by being held on the Tougaloo campus.
