JACKSON, Miss. – The air across central Mississippi carries a sharp chill this morning, the kind that bites at dawn and glazes windshields before sunrise. A hard freeze is settling in across the Jackson metro and surrounding counties, marking the strongest cold snap so far this fall. As clear skies dominate today, the focus quickly turns to protecting crops, pipes, and outdoor pets before temperatures plunge again Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Freeze Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Monday, with another warning from 9 p.m. Monday until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Lows will tumble into the upper 20s tonight and could reach as low as 23 degrees early Tuesday morning in outlying areas like Rankin and Scott Counties.
