Jackson planetarium reopening in 2026 with new name, upgrades

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson’s planetarium will get a new name before it reopens.

Leaders announced on November 17, 2025, that the planetarium will be known as the McNair-Davis Planetarium, honoring astronaut Dr. Ronald McNair and former Jackson Mayor Russell C. Davis.

Weird Al Yankovic’s tour adds Brandon Amphitheater stop

The facility has been closed since 2018, but renovations have been underway for several years. The upgrades include a redesigned theater and new exhibits to give visitors a modern, interactive science experience.
