Holiday Events in Jackson: Possum Ridge Model Train Exhibit and Christmas by Candlelight Tour Return This December

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) will host two holiday events in December: the Christmas by Candlelight Tour and the Possum Ridge model train exhibit. Both events will take place in Jackson, Mississippi. The Possum Ridge exhibit opens at the Two Mississippi Museums on December 2, 2025, and runs through December 31. Admission is free. The exhibit features model trains and the fictional town of Possum Ridge, a display that has been shown for over 40 years.

Possum Ridge depicts a 1940s Mississippi railroad town. The display includes a depot, church, bakery, barbershop, and other buildings. Over time, the exhibit has grown to include new features such as the Miss Goldy Chicken train car and an additional town scene. Visitors can view historic railroad artifacts, join a scavenger hunt, and use a reading nook with bilingual books for children.

The Christmas by Candlelight Tour is scheduled for Friday, December 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The tour includes stops at the Two Mississippi Museums, Old Capitol Museum, Mississippi State Capitol, and the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion. Each site will offer activities such as live music, crafts, refreshments, and a 10 percent discount at the Mississippi Museum Store…
