On November 15, 2025, three students from Hinds Community College’s Utica Campus received the $10,000 Cal & Annette Johnson Historically Black Community College Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. The scholarships were awarded at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Workforce Development Summit in Birmingham. The recipients are Madisyn Beard of Cleveland, Akeelah Carter of Tchula, and D’Avis Rogers of Yazoo City.
Beard is majoring in kinesiology and is a member of the women’s basketball team. Carter studies social work and participates in TRIO-Student Support Services.
