SCOTT COUNTY — A Scott County inmate accused in the 1986 abduction, rape and murder of 17-year-old Shondra May died Saturday while in custody, officials said.
Rubin Weeks, 63, who was not in good health at the time of his arrest, was found dead Dec. 6 at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the cause of death has not yet been determined but that no foul play is suspected. Because the death occurred in custody, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
Weeks had been arrested April 29 after investigators said new forensic testing produced a positive DNA match linking him to May’s killing nearly four decades earlier.
