JACKSON, Miss. — A group of Buddhist monks walking across the country on a “Walk for Peace” are expected to continue their journey through Mississippi on Tuesday as they head toward Jackson along the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Organizers said Monday that Day 45 of the 120-day, 2,300-mile trek will bring the group closer to the capital city, where they plan to make a midday stop and are inviting the public to visit.
According to the Walk for Peace team, the tentative itinerary for Tuesday includes:
- Lunch stop: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at coordinates 32°14’07.7″N, 90°32’33.0″W
- Overnight rest: A location in the Jackson area has not yet been confirmed. Organizers said they will post an update once arrangements are finalized.
The monks — accompanied by their dog, Aloka — are walking from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., to promote peace, loving-kindness and compassion. Supporters can follow their progress on a live map linked at the top of the group’s official “Walk for Peace” social media page…
