JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mayes Street bridge in Jackson was temporarily closed, and nearby businesses said the shutdown could have a major impact.
The Public Works Department said the bridge was closed after engineers found a failure in the support system. Repairs could take six to nine months, depending on whether the beam can be retrofitted or fully redesigned.

“It just closed. So, we’re not really worried about it at the moment, but we’re afraid that customers will have a tough time getting to us since it’s a major thoroughfare through there for us,” said Chris Harless, the commercial sales manager for Old South Brick & Supply Co.
