RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – With New Year’s celebrations taking place this week, Mississippi law enforcement agencies urged drivers to make safe choices before hitting the road.
Rankin County deputies are preparing for increased patrols for New Year’s travel. They want to discourage impaired driving.
MHP boosts patrols for safer New Year’s travel
“There’ll be roadside safety checkpoints set up. There’ll be deputies doing saturation patrols and things along those lines, in order to enhance our visibility and deter individuals from driving intoxicated and driving under the influence. And then, if individuals and people are caught driving under the influence, they will be arrested and brought here to the county jail,” said Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said impaired driving puts the driver, passengers and others sharing the road at risk. They encourage anyone planning to drink to arrange a designated driver or use a ride share service.
