Jackson family’s home damaged in New Year’s Day fire

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson family’s home was damaged during a fire on New Year’s Day.

The fire occurred in the 500 block of Willaman Street around noon on January 1, 2026.

Fireworks spark multiple fires in Jackson

According to Division Fire Chief Charles Felton, the home was fully involved when crews arrived at the scene. A fire investigator was requested in order to determine the cause of the fire.

The homeowner, Dallas Smith, said his wife called him at work to inform him that smoke was coming from a bedroom. He assumed a space heater may have caused the fire.

According to Smith, his wife and four children were inside the home at the time of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
