JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – With dozens of fires reported in abandoned homes, the Jackson Fire Department (JFD) is urging residents to stay alert and take precautions.
Officials said many unhoused individuals seek shelter in abandoned homes when the temperatures drop and start fires sto stay warm. With more than 100 vacant properties across the capital city, JFD has responded to dozens of fires linked to people seeking warmth.
“We believe that is important that all community members you really know, your neighbors know who stay, you know, next door to you, who lives in front of you.
