JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) took in 17 dogs that officials said were found living in severe neglect.
According to MARL, Jackson Animal Control reached out to them for assistance with 17 Yorkie and Yorkie/Schnauzer mixes that were discovered inside of a home that was part of an active death investigation. Jackson police said this was the Carol Ryan case. She was found buried in the backyard of a home.

The dogs were transferred to MARL, so they could begin receiving care. Officials said almost every single dog was matted, and several had skin irritation and overgrown nails.
“Before we place them for adoption, each dog requires: medicated baths, flea and tick treatment, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, safe housing, food, and daily care as they decompress from trauma, etc. The cost of care for this group is already climbing fast,” MARL officials said.
