Tigers close opening weekend at UAB Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State track and field capped off opening weekend on Saturday as the Tigers competed in the Vulcan Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The Tigers’ field events highlighted the day as three field performers won first place in their individual events. Kaiden Berry claimed the top spot in men’s shot put with a heave of 15.89m, while Malayna Mallory threw for a distance of 11.77m in the women’s, a new personal best for her. Nedgine Morancy rounded off the Tigers’ first-place winners with a distance of 11.83m in triple jump.

Jackson State recorded seven personal bests, led by Mallory and Nakiaya Jemmott, who both had two. Mallory’s second personal best came in the weight throw, where she threw for a distance of 14.27m. Jemmott recorded both of her times in the 60m, with 7.86 and 7.92. Madyson McGill launched for a new height of 3.08m in the women’s pole vault, while Lenaisa Drummond recorded her personal best in the first round of the 60m hurdles…
