Jackson firefighters respond to vacant apartment fire

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson firefighters responded to another fire at an abandoned apartment complex.

The fire happened at the apartment complex in the 2600 block of Belvedere Drive around 4:45 a.m. on January 14, 2026.

Division Fire Chief Charles Felton said smoke and flames were coming from a building when crews arrived at the scene.

“There are a large population of individuals without permanent shelter utilizing this complex as shelter. There are no active utilities at this location. This fire was caused as a result of human involvement, however the motive is unknown,” he said…
