STEPPING UP TO SERVE: Jackson detectives recognized for lifesaving response during fentanyl overdose

JACKSON – Three Jackson Police Department detectives are being recognized for their quick actions that saved a life following a fentanyl-related medical emergency at police headquarters.

On Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, Detective Armani Lewis arrested a subject on a charge of possession of fentanyl and transported the individual to police headquarters for questioning, police said. After the interrogation concluded, Lewis began preparing booking paperwork when the subject began showing signs of medical distress.

Detective Erik Monroe observed the subject seated upright with their head slumped forward and attempted to wake them using verbal commands and physical contact. When the subject failed to respond and began turning blue, Monroe determined there was a medical emergency…
