The City of Jackson has cut its police chief search down to two finalists, but will not say who they are.
City spokesperson Nic Lott confirmed Tuesday the list has been narrowed from four candidates to two but declined to release the names, saying only that an announcement will be made by Jackson Mayor John Horhn later this week. Horhn did not respond to requests for comment about who remains in the running or how the final decision will be made.
The secrecy around the final stage of the search comes as the city has recorded only three homicides in January, continuing a multi-year decline in killings. But the next chief will still face the challenge of policing in a city that remains among the nation’s highest in per-capita homicide rates…
