JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Senate passed a bill that would allow local governments to apply for money to help clean up their communities following January’s winter storm.
State Sen. Scott DeLano (R-District 50) said leaders expect the overall budget for the storm is expected to exceed $400 million. Many communities in the northern part of the state were left without power for days, and some are still without power.
Bill would create board for Jackson’s water system
The bill would create a revolving loan fund to help cities and counties get immediate help to start the recovery process.
“The discussion right now is there will be a total of about $50 million with the fact that it’s a revolving loan fund. The idea is that churns as projects get submitted to FEMA, they get paid back loans, more money goes out to help in the municipalities with their cash crunch,” DeLano said…
