Northwest Indiana and Mississippi See Progress in Accredited Rehabilitation Centers for Patient Care and Recovery

Rehabilitation centers in the Midwest and southern United States are making important strides in providing high-quality care for patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries. Powers Health, with acute rehabilitation units at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, and Powers Health Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point, recently received reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This reaccreditation, awarded for three years, represents the highest recognition for quality and standards in rehabilitation medicine. CARF is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1966 that evaluates health and human services worldwide.

The reaccreditation process involved a rigorous review by CARF surveyors, including on-site visits that assessed the centers’ commitment to measurable and accountable programs. Craig Bolda, vice president of Acute Rehabilitation Services for Powers Health, stated that the rehabilitation teams are dedicated to offering care, compassion, and outstanding treatment, helping patients regain everyday skills after serious accidents, surgeries, or medical illnesses. These facilities aim to inspire hope, promote independence, and help patients return home.

In the southeastern U.S., Encompass Health Corp. has announced plans to build a new 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Flowood, Mississippi. This facility will provide specialized care to patients recovering from strokes, neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital will offer 24-hour nursing and therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, all designed to restore function and improve quality of life.
