Jackson State softball falls to Marist in final inning

COMMERCE, Texas — Jackson State’s softball team had a late lead but fell short in a 7-6 loss to Marist on Sunday morning at the Lion Invitational. The Tigers led 4-3 into the sixth inning but allowed four runs in the bottom half to surrender the game.

Madison McDowell took the loss, moving to 2-2 on the season. Brooklyn Morris started and pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Offensively, Courtney Little led Jackson State with a double, walk, and two RBIs in three plate appearances. Avelina Mclean went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Gabrielle Willis added two hits and an RBI in four at-bats.

The Tigers scored first, posting four runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run groundout by Little. Marist responded with six runs to take a 6-4 lead before Jackson State tied the game at 6-6 in the seventh. The Red Foxes scored once in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory…
