Record Heat Followed by Storm Chances This Weekend

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -Yesterday was a record-setting note across Mississippi:

  • Jackson tied its record high of 83°
  • Meridian tied its record high of 83°
  • Greenville tied its record high of 81°
  • Hattiesburg set a new record at 87°
  • Greenwood set a record at 83°

A cold front is now moving into the area and will bring increasing rain and storm chances late today into Saturday.

Showers become more widespread this afternoon, with thunderstorms developing tonight and continuing into Saturday. The highest rain chances will be from this afternoon through early Sunday.

Central Mississippi remains under a low risk for severe weather through Saturday. Widespread storms are not expected, but a few stronger storms could produce:

  • Small hail
  • Gusty winds up to 50–60 mph
  • Heavy downpours

Repeated storms could also lead to localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas…
