The City of Jackson unveiled on Feb. 23 a street that was renamed in honor of fallen Hinds County Deputy Martin Shields Jr. to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his death.
The city, in partnership with the Deputy Martin L. Shields Jr. Memorial Foundation, hosted the unveiling ceremony Monday at the corner of Northview Drive and Hartfield Street in Jackson.
Shields died at the age of 37 after being fatally shot on Feb. 23, 2025, while responding to a domestic dispute call on Midway Road in Terry. The suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Shields had only served with the Hinds County Sheriff’s department for nine months…
