VA medical center marks “Thank a Resident Day,” highlights role of physicians in training

JACKSON – The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center recognized “Thank a Resident Day” and encouraged patients and staff to show appreciation for resident physicians who care for veterans while completing medical training.

In a social media post, the medical center said resident physicians are doctors in training who work long shifts and manage complex cases while providing care with compassion and focus.

The medical center also highlighted the VA’s role in training the nation’s health care workforce. According to the post, the Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest provider of health professions training in the United States, training more than 120,000 health professionals each year, including about 40,000 resident physicians…
