JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Dr. RaShall Brackney, the new police chief for the City of Jackson, is less than a month away from her start with the Jackson Police Department (JPD).
Brackney said she’s excited to bring new ideas and perspectives to the capital city and JPD. Members across the Jackson community are also excited for new leadership and hope to see some things develop.
“I’ve heard great things about her, and I think it’s exciting that it’s a woman just for a change. I think she’s going to kind of take care of things in a different way than a man would look at it, and I think she’s going to understand people being safe. And I just hope she adds more policemen,” said Libba Wilkes, a Jackson resident.

Brackney plans to approach the city with a threefold plan. She wants to assess the areas experiencing the highest rate of violent crime and understand how those community feel. Brackney wants to address technology and the ability to use it to prevent crimes and respond to them faster.
