MDOT plans lighting upgrades for Jackson-area interstates

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Drivers, who travel along Interstate 220 in Jackson, have been left in the dark for months.

“We want to get those lights back on and keep them on permanently. You know, not a temporary fix. This would be a permanent fix,” said Michael Flood, public information officer for the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

He said lighting along I-55 and much of I-20 was upgraded last fall through a project with R&W Electric Company. However, some areas remain dark, including stretches impacted by previous thefts.

“Those are out from a theft that occurred a while back. But I’m happy to report that that stretch of I-20 is going to be included in a complete lighting overhaul that that is being designed this year with Garver, LLC,” Flood stated…
