JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Brittney Bowman was disgusted by what she saw at the Chapel Ridge Apartments.
Last year, the Jackson community activist and dozens of others stepped in to clean up the Raymond Road property after the previous owners abandoned the site.
“How long has this trash been out here? This is an MDEQ violation,” she said. “Code Enforcement should be here boarding this up. All of this should be closed. If anybody’s found out here doing anything, it should automatically [be] some type of criminal offense.”
As Chapel Ridge continues to deteriorate, city leaders are proposing new steps to address squatting and derelict landlords, including a “squatting task force,” to help get the problem under control…
