FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – A new obstetric emergency room opened in Rankin County. This is the first and only OB emergency department in the county.
According to officials with Merit Health River Oaks, the department is a specialized unit for pregnancy-related symptoms.

“We’re here to augment and support all the other hospitals that are in the area. But for our patients that live here in Rankin County, they don’t have to travel as far for emergent care,” said John Whiteside, CEO of Merit Health River Oaks.
The department includes five private exam rooms with certified clinical staff and OB physicians with training in obstetric emergencies.
