On March 7, 2023, two members of the Florence High School (FHS) HOSA Community Awareness Team took civic engagement beyond the classroom. Representing their school at a City Board Meeting in Florence, they formally proposed the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting Florence High School to the Butler Creek, Roxbury and Copper Ridge subdivisions.
As a result, the City of Florence has been awarded $603,000 through the Mississippi Transportation Alternative Program to build a new walking bridge and sidewalk across the creek and along Williams Road behind Florence High School, according to Mayor Trey Gunn…
