Attorney General Clears Five Line of Duty Shootings, Laurel Officer Indicted in Separate Case

JACKSON — The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office has cleared law enforcement officers in five separate line of duty shootings across the state, while a sixth case has resulted in the indictment of a Laurel police officer.

In a statement released Friday, the office said it found the use of force justified in incidents occurring between March 2024 and February 2025 in multiple jurisdictions, following investigations conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

The reviewed cases include a March 31, 2024, shooting in Florence involving four deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office; an Aug. 2, 2024, incident in Clarksdale involving a police lieutenant and captain; an Aug. 8, 2024, shooting in Summit involving officers from both Summit and McComb police departments; a Sept. 8, 2024, incident in Jackson involving a city police officer; and a Feb. 16, 2025, shooting in Flowood involving two Flowood police officers…
