JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Actress and author Tatyana Ali visited Shirley Elementary Friday to read her first book, “Aszi and the Octopus,” to students.
Ali read the book to promote literacy to young students. “Aszi and the Octopus” is part of Scholastic’s Rising Voices Collection that Ali says honors the richness of Black stories.
Ali said becoming a mother is what kickstarted her effort to encourage young readers to not only read but tell their own stories…
