Wreath laying held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – In commemoration of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968, a wreath laying ceremony was held in Jackson on Saturday.

Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, led the ceremony at Freedom Corner. He said the tradition has continued for decades as a reminder to never forget King’s sacrifice.

“We have laid this wreath on April 4th for almost 30 years. We must never allow his dream to become a nightmare. And we must never forget what he stood for and what he did,” said Stokes…
