Fallen Hinds County deputy honored at crime victims ceremony

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A fallen Hinds County deputy is among those honored during Monday’s Outstanding Service to Crime Victims awards ceremony.

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch presented the award to the father of 37-year-old Deputy Martin Shields Jr., who was shot and killed while responding to a domestic call in Terry.

Martin Shields Sr. says his son didn’t like much attention, but Shields says he is grateful for the recognition of his son’s service.

“It’s not often that law enforcement be seen in a positive light, but this took the cake with the Martin L. Shields, Jr. Memorial Foundation, and we help kids with scholarships, and that’s the way we gone keep him going,” Shields said…
