NASSAU COUNTY — Thousands of Nassau County students returned to classrooms Monday as local law enforcement agencies prepared for another school year focused on student safety, traffic enforcement and maintaining a visible presence around campuses.
The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and Fernandina Beach Police Department both work closely with the Nassau County School District through their School Resource Officer programs. SROs provide security while also serving as mentors, educators and resources for students and staff.
The Sheriff’s Office provides SRO coverage at schools throughout the county. According to the school district, SROs work to build relationships with students, provide instruction and help prevent problems before they escalate.
