Man arrested in connection with deadly Jan. 2 hit-and-run on University Boulevard in Jacksonville

A 24-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on University Boulevard in Jacksonville was arrested Tuesday in the Oakleaf area of Clay County, authorities announced.

Alexander Rivera-Russo was taken into custody for the Jan. 2 crash that killed 27-year-old Savana Pendarvis, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

According to police, Rivera-Russo was driving at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended Pendarvis’ vehicle, pushing it into a utility pole where it caught fire.

Rescuers were unable to save Pendarvis and occupants in another vehicle were also injured in the crash, JSO said…
