Wendy’s closes 4 Florida restaurants as bankrupt franchisee begins major shutdown

Wendy’s customers in Florida are finding fewer locations to choose from as a troubled franchise operator begins shutting down restaurants. Four Florida restaurants have already closed as part of a larger shutdown involving Wendy’s locations across several states.

The closures are tied to Meritage Hospitality Group, a major Wendy’s franchisee that recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Florida locations that have closed include restaurants in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, and Orange Park. Two of the closed restaurants were located in Tallahassee, making the city one of the hardest-hit areas in the current shutdown.

The closures are part of a larger effort by the franchisee to reduce its restaurant portfolio while working through bankruptcy proceedings.

More Wendy’s closures are expected
