Jacksonville, Florida – In a significant legal development, Lucas Shirley II, 28, from Jacksonville, has been sentenced to five years and five months in federal prison. Chief United States District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan issued the sentence following Shirley’s guilty plea on August 17, 2023, for the crime of transferring unregistered short-barreled rifles.

The case, which unfolded on January 4, 2023, involved an undercover agent (UC) from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and a confidential informant (CI). Posing as leaders of a motorcycle gang, they visited Shirley’s home in Jacksonville. There, Shirley sold them three privately manufactured rifles, including a machinegun, a short-barreled rifle, and a combination machinegun short-barreled rifle, along with a firearm silencer. None of these firearms were registered in the National Firearms Registrations and Transfer Record as legally required.
