FL Barbecue Joint In Business For Two Decades Closes Due To “Unprecedented” Lease Increases

Sometimes, when I write about Florida barbecue joints, readers comment that Florida doesn’t have “good” barbecue or any distinctive barbecue style.

However, some experts will tell you that, over time, Florida has developed a barbecue style that is all its own. According to Those Florida Guys, Florida barbecue tends to be heavy on Carribean and fruit flavors as well as a mix of other regional styles.

And many Floridians have barbecue joints that they frequent and they would tell you that the barbecue they eat there is delicious. These places don’t have huge marketing budgets, but they don’t need them because they rely on word of mouth. Examples are Hamaknockers in Fort Pierce and Tampa’s The Brisket Shoppe.

Unfortunately, one beloved barbecue joint in business for 21 years recently closed due to financial issues.

About Woody’s Bar-B-Q: This barbecue chain initially opened in 1980. It quickly took off and expanded nationwide. The menu has a “secret sauce,” as well as items you’d expect from a barbecue joint such as Memphis spare ribs, Texas brisket, and California pulled pork.
