It’s healthy minds and bodies for MaliVai Washington summer campers in North Jacksonville

About 230 youth attending MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation ‘s summer camp received free health screenings from Vision is Priceless , Ascension St. Vincent’s and the Florida Department of Health .

The vision, medical and dental screenings for camp youth in first through 12th grade made a difference for not only the youth but their families, according to the foundation .

The foundation is based in the largely low-income 32209 ZIP code in North Jacksonville and is in Health Zone 1, where chronic health problems have long been rampant. Many families there live in poverty and have limited access to health care, according to the foundation.

“Proper health care is foundational to a child’s development and academic success and these services provide a critical lifeline for families facing economic hardship,” Executive Director Terri Florio said. “This inspiring show of community support and dedication to health equity ensures these Jacksonville youth have an equal chance for success.”
