Jacksonville police officer arrested, accused of ‘boating under the influence,’ JSO says

A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officer was arrested Wednesday night on charges of boating under the influence.

JSO says a Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission observed an unlit vessel approaching the Thomas Creek Boat Ramp on Ethel Road.

The officer reported they determined that the boat was being operated in violation of a state statute, and made contact with the boat’s driver when he came back to land.

According to JSO, the officer reported the boat’s driver showing signs of impairment and determined he was operating the boat under the influence.

He was arrested and taken to the Duval County Jail.

JSO says the officer has been employed with JSO since January of 2018 and he is administratively reassigned while the charges are “being resolved.”
