Man killed in crash during high-speed chase through Jackson Co.

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. ( WDHN ) — One man is dead following a deadly high-speed chase with police through two north Florida counties.

Officials say they attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by a 34-year-old man from Orange Park, Florida for no tag displayed on Interstate 10 in Washington County, but as the trooper tried to pull the motorcycle over, it sped away and a chase ensued that reached speeds of nearly 142 mph.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say the chase down I-10 continued into Jackson County where the motorcyclist tried to take an exit onto State Road 71. They said that the motorcyclist tried to take the exit, but he lost control trying to change directions and crashed.

As Troopers arrived on the scene, they said they requested emergency services and began to provide CPR to the man, but the life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.

During the investigation, officials say they learned the motorcycle was not registered or insured, and there was no tag displayed. They said they also learned the motorcyclist did not have a driver’s license and no motorcycle endorsement.
