Randy Travis to make ‘special appearance’ at Jacksonville concert

At his peak, Randy Travis was about as big a star as it’s possible to be in country music. Chart-topping singles, Grammy awards, Country Music Hall of Fame, a co-starring role with Patrick Swayze.

But a 2013 stroke derailed his career , robbing him of his trademark voice and the stage where he performed for hundreds of thousands of fans. But that’s not going to stop him from going out on tour.

The Randy Travis: More Life Tour comes to the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park on Jan. 25. The tour features Travis’ longtime touring band performing his big hits (he had 16 No. 1 country hits in his career), with singer James Dupré handling Travis’ vocal duties. Travis himself will be there for a meet-and-greet with fans and a “special appearance.” At shows performed over the summer, Travis and his wife reportedly sat on the stage and watched the show and interacted with fans.

Travis is a six-time Grammy winner, two-time Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year and was the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist in 1985. He topped the Country charts with big hits such as “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “Diggin’ Up Bones” and “Deeper Than the Holler.”
