🌫🌊💧🌪Hurricane Helene’s effects come to St. Augustine

St. Augustinians, the National Weather Service has confirmed that St. Augustine will likely feel tropical storm effects from Hurricane Helene.

So, we’re dedicating today’s Daily Briefing to informing you, our reader, with as much information as we can so you, your family, friends, loved ones and pets can stay safe.

With wind gusts peaking possibly peaking at 65 mph, the NWS is forecasting threats to life and property to coincide with the uncertainty of the storm’s path, size and intensity. The following includes the NWS’s advice for planning, preparing and acting.

Wind🌫

Plan for hazardous, tropical storm force winds and protect property as soon as possible. Prepare for limited wind damage and move to a safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Winds can damage porches, awnings, carports, sheds, unanchored mobile homes, unsecured lightweight objects, tree limbs, shallow trees, fences and roadway signs. Expect hazardous — even impassable — driving conditions on bridges, elevated roadways, causeways and access routes along with power and communications outages.
