JACKSONVILLE, Florida — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of 27-year-old Jareesha Wilkerson, of Jacksonville, Florida, who was reported missing following a traffic crash on the Mathews Bridge on December 8. Her body was recovered from the St. Johns River a week later.Officers, alongside Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the bridge and found Wilkerson’s disabled vehicle but not her. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck collided with her sedan, followed by an SUV crashing into the pickup. Another three-car crash occurred in a separate lane. Despite efforts to locate her, including contacting loved ones and checking hospitals, Wilkerson remained missing until her body was found on December 15, approximately 3.5 miles from the bridge.The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into her death. “While this is not the outcome anyone hoped for, your #JSO remains committed to providing answers to Ms. Wilkerson’s family and friends during this difficult time,” stated the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
