Jacksonville gambling locations tied to 2 murders, 26 aggravated assaults: sheriff

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A multi-agency task force, “Operation Fish & Chips,” led to the shutdown of illegal Jacksonville businesses where two deaths occurred, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

In a Facebook post, JSO praised the officers involved with the task force and the state and federal partners responsible for upholding justice.

Officers worked from March of 2023 to Dec. of this year to identify businesses participating in illegal gaming activities and the individuals running them.

Over the course of “Operation Fish & Chips,” the sheriff said that two people were killed at businesses in Duval County, plus eight robberies and 26 aggravated assaults occurred at these same locations.

“Shutting these locations down removes one accelerant that fuels violence in our community,” a JSO stated in a post on Facebook.
