JACKSONVILLE, Florida ( MyFloridaNews ) — A significant crackdown on illegal gaming operations in Jacksonville has resulted in 12 arrests and the seizure of millions of dollars in assets. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office led the operation, which spanned from March 2023 to December 2023.The multi-agency effort, dubbed Operation Fish & Chips, targeted illegal gaming locations throughout the city. On December 11, authorities executed seven search warrants simultaneously, capturing those responsible for the illegal activities, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.Items seized during the operation included 263 illegal gambling devices such as slot machines and fish tables, $2.5 million in cash, $1.2 million in jewelry, watches, and purses, 15 vehicles and a trailer valued at nearly $1.7 million, 52 firearms, two houses, and one commercial building.The operation aimed to curb violence associated with illegal businesses. During the operation’s timeframe, two people were killed, and there were eight robberies and 26 aggravated assaults at illegal gaming sites across Duval County, the sheriff’s office reported.The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to its state and federal partners, including Florida’s Attorney General’s Office, the Florida Gaming Control Commission, the United States Secret Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for their roles in the operation.
