Fruit Cove Middle School student hit by vehicle, airlifted to hospital in critical condition

A St. Johns County student was in critical Wednesday morning after she was hit by a vehicle at about 7 a.m. on Race Track Road near South Branch Drive. She was riding her bike in the area of Fruit Cove Middle School when she was hit, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue. The teenager was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

Fruit Cove Middle School Principal Kelly Jacobson sent the following note to families:

Dear FCMS Families,

This morning, one of our students was involved in a car accident on the way to school. She is currently receiving medical care, and we are keeping her and her family in our thoughts.

We understand that this news may impact our students and school community. If your child would like to talk to someone about this, our school counselors are available to provide support.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us for any additional assistance.

This is also a good time to remind everyone about staying safe on the way to and from school, whether walking, biking, or driving. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring the safety of all our students.
