Jacksonville sheriff’s officer dies after nine-year cancer battle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared Friday that Officer Sandy James died last week at the age of 58.

James had worked for JSO since 2004. She began as a patrol officer and later became an evidence technician before being diagnosed with cancer in 2016.

She continued working in the JSO building after her diagnosis and remained on the job until two days before her death…
