From scattered showers to widespread rain: Here’s what to expect
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s weather is about to take a turn. While the start of the week has stayed dry, conditions are expected to shift as we head further into the week.
The big driver behind this change is a weak front that will move northward, creating local rain development across central, west-central, and southern Florida. This uptick in wet weather is forecast to help ease the drought conditions that have lingered over parts of the region. While the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a non-tropical area of low pressure for potential tropical characteristics with weak chances for development, about 10% over the next 7 days.
Conditions such as incoming Saharan dust and quickly changing local weather patterns are likely to keep any tropical development limited for now.
Weekly rain, storm, and temperature breakdown
Here’s how the week shapes up:
- Tonight: Partly cloudy skies, mild temperatures, and the chance for some patchy fog by morning. Lows dip to the upper 60s.
- Tuesday: Expect partly cloudy skies with a higher chance for showers and storms, especially in the afternoon as the sea breeze makes its return. High temperature is forecast near 87 degrees.
- Wednesday & Thursday: Rain and thunderstorms become much more widespread, and rain chances soar to 60% on Wednesday and could peak near 90% on Thursday. Heavier showers are likely to impact both inland and coastal areas during the afternoons.
- Rainfall totals: News4JAX’s forecast calls for 0.5 to 1.25 inches of rain inland, with amounts possibly doubling—up to 2 to 4 inches—along the immediate coast. If you’re near I-75, expect amounts closer to the lower end of the range.
- Friday and beyond: Showers start to taper off, with rain chances dropping as the week closes and a return of the Gulf Coast sea breeze could keep things soggy at times as we head toward the weekend.
Temperatures will run close to average through the week, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s before warming up into the low 90s by the weekend. Overnight lows stay comfortable, hovering in the upper 60s and low 70s.
